History 2007
With 16 returning players Apex set out to make in impact in the state tournament in 2007. Many of the returning players worked hard in the offseason polishing their game in the fall and winter. What showed up in the spring was a talented team that needed to learn how play with a lead and learn how to win a close game. Two early season 1 goal losses to Green Hope & East Chapel Hill led to a more focused team. The team finally hit paydirt with a dominating 9-5 win at home in the rematch with Green Hope handing them their first loss to a NC team in 74 contests. After another 1 goal loss to East Chapel Hill the girls turned things on finishing the regular season 12-3 and receiving the #1 seed in the state tournament. Apex cruised into the semifinals with dominating wins over Hoggard and Chapel Hill. In the semis Apex dispatched North Meck 11-8 despite a 7 goal performance by North Mecklenberg All American Dylan Garner. In the finals Apex faced East Chapel Hill, the only team to beat Apex twice in the season. The score was tied 4-4 early in the second half then Apex turned on the offense and powered up the defense and cruised to a 9-5 win and it's first ever statechampionship. Apex finished with a Laxpower ranking of #1 out of 44 schools in NC. Adding to it's accomplishments the team had 3 players on the All Conference team, 2 players on the 1st team all state, 3 players selected to the National tournament team, 1 player selected to the all star game, 2 players make Academic All American and coach Jessica Trombley (Pineo) receives coach of the year honors
